The extreme rise in knowledge that has occurred in the last few years has led to evolutional changes in the life of mankind. Not only has the increase in knowledge and the innovation of technologies caused changes in mankind’s lifestyle but it has also led to the discovery of new horizons in terms of human perspectives.
A good example is in man’s understanding of the earth. For many years man had always assumed that the earth was flat. However, due to increase in navigational knowledge, innovation of superior ships, and the courage of a few sailors, mankind was able to understand that the earth was not flat but rather spherical.
Today we might in retrospect think that the early man must have been quite naïve in thinking the earth to be flat; however, we need to understand that man was working with the knowledge that he had at the moment. In a few years to come, the people in the future might also think us quite naïve when they discover things which are just among us today but we cannot see or understand them since we are clouded by our current thinking and our current limited understanding.
Everyday mankind is trying to discover more about his environment. Understanding our world has proven to have a lot of benefits. For example the discovery of elements such as coal and petroleum in the earth’s crust was very beneficial and it was very fundamental in triggering the industrial age. These resources would have continued lying unused and we would never have enjoyed their benefits.
Study continues among geological studies and petroleum engineering to find out more about the petroleum fuel resources in the earth’s crust. Scientists and researchers are always on the search for undiscovered deposits and better ways of processing the crude oils for better fuels.
As mankind digs deep to find out more about the earth’s crust, he is also venturing skywards to learn more about the skies. Our fore fathers were very speculative above the skies and were amazed by the heavenly bodies that they could see including the sun, the moon, and the stars. Without much understanding, the skies and heavenly bodies were simplistically explained away as supernatural entities that man would even worship.
Today, with much efforts having being put into aeronautical and astrological studies, man has been able to fly and later rocket into outer space. Aeronautical discoveries were a great step that gave man the confidence to do things which were there before seemingly impossible. Thanks to man’s desire to always progress, after discovering and mastering flying, man wanted to venture even farther than the earth’s atmosphere.
Today mankind is comfortably rocketing into outer space and he is always trying to reach new destinations. Apart from trying to reach new planets, man is also putting in a lot of effort into studying more about the planets that have been reached. Hopefully, just like we discovered crude oil and other minerals in our crust, maybe we can also find some valuable resources in outer space.
