About Metronauts
Metronauts is an open community of people from across the greater Toronto region (and beyond) who care about the future of our cities and the role transportation has in our lives. Metronauts originates from Toronto Transit Camp, held in February 2007.
Who are we?
Metronauts participate in the creation of a future of sustainable transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). We are concerned citizens from every walk of life – passionate amateurs and professional experts – who have chosen to take an active role in shaping our cities. What is this site about?
The Metronauts blog is written by members of the Metronauts community. Together, we hope to transform how people in the Toronto region think about sustainable transportation. It presents the best ideas from around the world as well as solutions, ideas and local wisdom from our community. You can be a Metronauts writer – we invite contributions that can inform, educate or provoke a new conversation.
We are interested in all modes of transportation – from private vehicles to public transit and active transportation such as cycling and walking – and how they fit together. We’re interested in the relationship between urban form and transportation infrastructure, how humans relate to each other and experience that infrastructure and how technology is changing the needs and possibilities of transportation.
Metronauts.ca is the central meeting place for members of this community to find each other and to start community-driven projects and events.
What else are we doing?
In addition to publishing this site, we are holding a series of participant-led events to identify and present creative solutions to transportation issues facing the region. Staff and management of Metrolinx and other local planners and operating agencies are invited to these events and participate on a level playing field with members of the community.

Code of Conduct – The Metronauts Pledge
Every member who joins the online community or attends an event agrees to the Metronauts Pledge, which is our code of conduct. It is important that everything we create online and at the events is open and shared with the rest of the community and that we have a common set of principles guiding our behavior.
The Metronauts community framework works best when everyone plays by a few simple rules. By registering and participating in Metronauts, you are agreeing to abide by the following principles:
- Participation is expected and should emerge according to one’s individual gifts, inclinations and inspiration. The sum of everyone’s contributions is greater than our individual parts.
- The Metronauts website and events are a solutions playground not a complaints department. Have a solution-oriented positive attitude with you at all times and enforce this behaviour in others.
- You agree that all materials (text, photography, videos, etc.) and design artifacts posted to this website for which you own the rights shall be covered by a Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-Share-Alike or similar licence.
- Respect your fellow participants and work toward positive outcomes.
This Pledge is enforced by community action. The community stewards reserve the right to delete any material posted to this website which we deem inappropriate.
